Power of Promise: Examining Nuclear Energy in India – Talk with physicist Dr. M.V. Ramana

Nityanand Jayaraman talks to Dr. M. V. Ramana, a  physicist at the Nuclear Futures Laboratory and the Program on Science and Global Security, both at Princeton University, and a member of the International Panel on Fissile Materials and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ Science and Security Board. The following interview was conducted in Asian College of Journalism, Chennai on 18 February, 2013, while Mr.Ramana was on a tour of India to promote his book The Power of Promise: Examining Nuclear Energy in India,  published in 2012 by Penguin Books. The book provides a cogent and compelling argument on the history of nuclear energy in India, the reality behind the claims of successes and why nuclear energy program is a failed program.

Dr. Ramana is also co-editor of Prisoners of the Nuclear Dream and author of Bombing Bombay? Effects of Nuclear Weapons and a Case Study of a Hypothetical Explosion.
