Nokia Siemens Networks Workers on strike

Following the failure by the management to act on the long pending demands of Nokia Siemens Networks Workers including recognition of their union and improvement of the working conditions, workers of Nokia Siemens Networks, Oragadam SEZ have stuck work since 6th of June. The workers have been demanding recognition of their union, reinstatement of dismissed workers and increased wages and other benefits for the past year and half. In September and October of last year, the workers struck work for more than 57 days(‎) and withdrew the strike after intervention by the Tamil Nadu Labour Department.

Workers say that in spite of Labour Department’s intervention, the management has not complied with any of the demands of the workers. Last week frustrated by the management’s tactics, workers resisted by slowing down the production and the management retaliated by forcing 43 workers to go on leave. “This prompted a sit in strike for 3 days between thursday and saturday” said a worker. The workers have since then struck work. While there was a meeting in Labour Department on Monday, there has been no progress according to the workers.
