Update: Nokia Siemens Networks Workers arrested

Following the failure of talks between the union and the management in Labour Department’s office on the 16th day of their ongoing strike, 102 workers and union representatives were arrested after they gheraoed in front the factory gate. According to Muthukumar, district president of CITU, the management took a hardline position refusing to recognize and engage  with the representative union Nokia Siemens Networks Workers Union and also has decided to terminate the 18 workers suspended last year for engaging in union activities. The workers have been staging various protests against the factory relentlessly for more than a year on various demands including wage hike, reinstatement of suspended workers and recognition of the union.
