National and State Transport unions call for national strike participation

A meeting of various state level unions of transport workers was held in New Delhi by All India Coordination Committee of Road Transport Workers Organization on July 27th, 2016. The meeting has endorsed the demands and call for strike by Central Trade Unions and has also put forth several sectoral demands in transport sector including withdrawal of Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015 and end to contractual labour in transport sector. The unions will execute district and state level actions towards September 2nd national strike. The complete report of the resolution by the unions is available below.

A followup state level meeting was held on August 1st in Chennai by state level unions including AITUC, CITU, TTSF, HMS, INTUC, LPF, TMATSP, MLF, AALF, and PTS to chalk out the strategies to mobilise transport workers by the unions. The participating unions have resolved to participate in the protest by Central Trade Unions in District Capitals on August 9th and conduct a seminar in August 16 in Thiruchi and August 18th in Chennai. Gate meetings will be held in front of transport offices on August 23rd and 24th. The unions will also give pamphlets to general public in bus depots on the demands of the strike.
