Implement court ruling on equal pay for equal work

CITU organized protests on 22nd December demanding that the Supreme Court ruling on ‘equal pay for equal work’ be implemeneted. Protests were in bus stands in Sri Perumbudur and Kancheepuram, and the bazaar in Maraimalai Nagar. There were 130, 150 and 175 protesting workers in each of these places. The protest drew both permanent and temporary workers from factories such as Ford, Hyundai, Magickwood, and from public sector, like transport workers. The Supreme Court ruling issued on October 27, 2016 affects all establishments employing more than 20 workers and says that ‘equal pay for equal work’ is an unambiguous constitutional right vested in every employee — whether engaged on a regular or temporary basis.
